Our video conferencing service fairmeeting is very popular. We have therefore had to expand the Kubernetes cluster by eight servers in recent months. The free version fairmeeting.net displays a call for donations at the end, but unfortunately these do not cover the additional costs. We are appealing to subscribe for fairmeeting pro, especially if fairmeeting is used regularly and not just privately.
We still do not want to introduce any hard limits in terms of duration and number of participants, but we now indicate after one hour in the free version and again later in the conference that the time for ‘fair use’ has actually been exceeded. The window can be clicked away, whereby some attendee at the conference is asked to give a few euros for extended use. This helps us to cover the costs of the data center and bandwidth.
In addition, we introduce a registration: The person who starts a conference will require a fairlogin account. This can be created for free on fairapps.net (anyone who does not want a new password can also use Google, Apple, Microsoft Account or the one of their own university). The person who starts a meeting is then responsible for not doing illegal conversations, chats or screen sharing.
What are the advantages of a subscription? On pro.fairmeeting.net you also have the option of starting a recording, uploading your own background image or setting up breakout rooms. Everyone decides for themselves which pro package is the most suitable. Even with the pro version there are no restrictions, because if there are a few more people than booked, the conference should still be able to take place. It's great if more people are interested in a topic, nobody should be locked out. If this happens more often, please upgrade - we reserve the right to carry out spot checks.
